Leroy Vern Koster

Roy Koster, 79, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on August 17, 2023. He was born on August 6, 1944, in Rice Lake, WI, to the late Pauline and Harry Koster. Roy was a loving Husband, Father, and Papa. He is survived by his wife, Debra, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 7th. Roy was a friend to many and will be dearly missed.
Roy was a very proud American who loved his country and loved to share his stories of the three years he served in the United States Army. He specialized in radar and built his career from the knowledge and skills he acquired during his military service. Roy worked for GEC Avionics for twenty years, where he met his wife, Debra. He later worked for several avionics companies and even started his own consulting business. Roy retired in 2015 but continued to occasionally work on small projects.
In addition to his military and career accomplishments, Roy had a passion for aviation. He loved watching the sky for planes and helicopters. He could identify the type of aircraft overhead before anyone else even knew it was there. Roy's laughter and light will live on through his family, who will always cherish his love for his country.
Roy leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Debra, daughters: Amy Koster and Meredith Rivers (Frankie); grandchildren, Devin, Claire, and David Rivers; sister, Betty Spores; brother-in-law, Jim McPherson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Marilyn and Beverly Malone; and brothers, Erv and Les Koster.
Roy attended Barron High School and was a proud alumnus. He also worshipped at Oak Hill Baptist Church.
In his free time, Roy enjoyed gardening, traveling, doing yard work, and spending time with his family. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a true cheesehead, always supporting His Green Bay Packers. Go Pack Go!
A Celebration of Life will be held at Crowell Brothers in Buford, GA, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Roy's memory.
Roy Koster will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, Papa and proud American. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
