The Legacy of Life

Leroy Smith

October 3, 1964 – July 9, 202

Leroy Smith Sr., beloved father, son, and friend, passed away on July 9, 2025, at the age of 60. Born October 3, 1964, to the late John Willie Smith Sr. and Catherine Backey, Leroy was a lifelong resident of Sylvania, Ga. and attended school in the Public School System of Screven County. He touched the lives of many with his warm heart and down-to-earth spirit. He was a dedicated, faithful employee for the Chance Family for over 30 years.

From a young age, Leroy formed a meaningful bond with Louise Bryant. Together, they shared a chapter of life that brought the blessing of two children, who would become his pride and joy.

Leroy had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. He found peace by the water, fishing with patience and joy, and he loved the thrill of riding his 4-wheeler through back roads and trails. His quiet strength, gentle laugh, and love for the outdoors will be remembered by all who knew him

He was preceded in death by his father, John Willie Smith, Sr.; brother, John Willie Smith, Jr.; granddaughter, Shandrica, and great uncle Tom Jones.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories to his mother Catherine Lawton of Sylvania, Ga.; his children, Leroy Smith (Christina) of Millen, Ga., Joshua Smith (Alysha), and goddaughter Leila Kelly of Waynesboro, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; his sister, Betty Smith of Brunswick, Ga.; his brother, Willie Smith of Sylvania, Ga.; his aunts, Louise Scott of Tamarac, Fl., Alveara (Robert) Holt, Elizabeth (James) Edwards and Eva (Vasco) Skeete of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; his uncles, Grady Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. And Willie J. Scott, Jr. of St. Augustine, Fl.; cousins like siblings Joyce Jones and Thomas Jones; he also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
