Lester Ray Carter

Lester Ray carter, 82, passed away on July 1, 2025 at his home in Roxbury, Kansas. On January 20, 1943 Lester arrived into the loving vibrant farming family of Tony Arthur Carter and Lola Gladys (Stevens) Carter yin Wakefield, Kansas. Lester was blessed to be 1 of 11 children born to his parents, and second to the youngest of this family. Lester graduated from Wakefield High School in 1960, after graduation Lester enlisted into the US Navy at the age of 17 where he completed his tour of duty.
Lester spent much of his life using his talents in body repair, which was his passion. Lester enjoyed family reunions with his siblings and their families, Kansas University Jayhawks basketball, traveling, fishing, camping, and playing Ship, Captain, Crew.
Lester was a father and stepfather to Sheila and Joe Carter, David Beach, and Dawn Jackson, from previous marriages. Lester was United in marriage to Neoma Yvonne Carter on February 17th, 1987. Out of this union, Lester became the stepfather to Thomas and John and was a supportive role model in their young lives.
Lester was preceded in death by his loving wife Yvonne, parents: Tony and Lola Carter; brothers: Milo, Tony, Donald, and Arvin; sisters: Margery, Verna, Bertha (Ilene), Sharon, and Veda; adopted daughter: Diana Rivas-Gomez; son: Joe Carter; and grandson: Kordel Longacre.
Lester is survived by his daughter: Sheila Carter; stepsons: Thomas A. Esslinger (Carie) of Roxbury, KS and Johnnie Eslinger, Sr. (Venus) of Marina, CA; sister: Shirley Zentz of Missouri; grandchildren: Carrie Anne Kerr of California, Kailea Stout (Jerrod) of Lindsborg, KS, Kaitlynne Longacre of Roxbury, KS, Kenny Eslinger (Holley) of Portland, OR, Theresa (Corey) Grant of Sarasota, FL, Mindy Krause of Salina, KS, Khira Longacre (Mo), John Eslinger (Vanessa) of Vancouver, WA, Joshua Eslinger of Savannah, GA, Kurt Catalan of the Philippines, Chen Catalan of the Philippines, and Jason Carter of Concordia, KS; sister-in-law: Jeanette Carter of Decatur, AR; as well as many great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Per Lester's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services or viewing.
The family will gather at the graveside on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Timber Creek Cemetery in Wakefield Kansas.
