Lester F Johnson

Lester Franklin Johnson July 16, 1949 – May 22, 2025 Lester Franklin Johnson was born on July 16, 1949, at Riverview Hospital and raised in Matawan, New Jersey. He was a devoted resident of Keyport for 48 years, where he lived with his beloved wife Angela and their best buddy, Cody the dog. Lester graduated from Matawan High School in 1967 and went on to earn an associate degree from Brookdale Community College. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 5 1/2 years, including time in Vietnam as an airplane mechanic. Following his military service, Lester worked for U.S. Customs and Border Protection for 25 years as an entry specialist, dedicating his career to serving his country in another capacity. Lester was a loving father to his son Derek and daughter-in-law Kate, and a proud grandfather to Anna and Francesca. He is survived by his identical twin brother Bobby, youngest brother Michael, sister-in-laws Cil and Amy, nephews Matthew, Robbie, Sean, and Scott, niece Aimee, and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his mother, Filomena DiSciullo, brother Jackie, and sister Linda. Lester enjoyed biking on the Henry Hudson Trail with Angela, and was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, sang in the choir, and at one time was a sign language interpreter. A dedicated father, he also coached his son Derek's baseball teams. Lester ran two New York City Marathons and generously volunteered his time at both the Monmouth County SPCA and Bayshore Hospital. His kindness, dedication, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 9AM at the funeral home.
