Lester C. Weil, Jr. born on September 19, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, at the age of 91. Lester was a devoted family man, a dedicated public servant, and a cherished member of his community. A proud army veteran, Lester continued his commitment to service as a firefighter in the city of Detroit, where he bravely served for 35 years. Remarkably, he claimed the title of the oldest recruit for the Fire Department, embodying a lifelong dedication to protecting and serving his fellow citizens. In addition to his public service, Lester was an avid reader with a penchant for crossword puzzles. He often multitasked, tackling a new book or puzzle while watching television. Beyond his personal passions, Lester found joy and purpose in volunteering his time to help others. He was a proud Free Mason for over 70 years, achieving the distinguished position of "Grandmaster," of which he was immensely proud. Lester is survived by his beloved children, Chris (Tom) Starke and Leslie (Mark) Vipperman, who carry on his legacy of love and compassion. He was a cherished grandfather to Catherine (Matthew) Krause, Michelle (Abraham) Diaz, and Jennifer (Michael) Kernozek. His memory will also be cherished by his great-grandchildren: Brendan, Ethan, Lily, Maddie, Keaton, Kalea, Kaden, Mason, Owen, Grayson, and Maryn. Lester is fondly remembered by his brother, Kenneth (Christine) Weil. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Louise, his granddaughter, Stacey Belanger, and his siblings, Elizabeth, Glenn, and Jack. Family, friends, and community members are invited to celebrate Lester's life and legacy during the visitation at Wasik Funeral Home, Gendernalik Chapel, located at 35259 23 Mile Rd. in New Baltimore, on Friday, July 25, from 4-8 pm, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, at 11 am at the funeral home, with additional visitation beginning at 10 am. Lester will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery. Lester Weil's life epitomized service, love, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. His warmth and kindness will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
