Lester Leroy "Les" Wilson, Sr., age 85, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away at Sagepoint Senior Living Services in La Plata, Maryland on January 28, 2026.
Les was the son of the late Luther Wilson and the late Alice (Miller) Wilson. In addition to his parents, Les was preceded in death by his son, Steven M. "Steve" Wilson; and brother-in-law, Roy Thomas.
Les is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia Mae (Abell) "Ginny" Wilson; sons, Lester L. "Chuck" Wilson, Jr. and his girlfriend Barbara, Scott M. Wilson and his wife Jodi, and Brandon L. Wilson and his wife Dee; one sister, Delores Thomas; grandchildren, Jacqlyn Wilson, Ainsley Wilson, Brady Wilson, Dayne Wilson, and Brent Finagin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Les was born on September 28, 1940 and raised in Mapleton Depot, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Saltillo High School's Class of 1958. Les was a Veteran of the United States Armed Services, having served in the United States Navy from 1958 – 1964. During his military service, Les was stationed at NSWC Dahlgren in Virginia, where he met his wife, Ginny. Les and Ginny married on May 13, 1961 at Brookland Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. They resided in Marbury, Maryland for 30 years before relocating to La Plata, Maryland in the mid-1990's.
After completing his service in the United States Navy, Les worked for a brief time as a civilian employee with the U.S. Department of the Navy at NSWC Indian Head. In 1966, Les joined the Maryland State Police. Upon graduating from the State Police Academy, Les served as a State Trooper, assigned to Barrack H in Waldorf, Maryland, until his retirement.
After his retirement from the Maryland State Police, Les returned to civilian employment with the U.S Department of the Navy at NSWC Indian Head, where he served as the Security Officer, overseeing the base's police force and security services. His duties as Security Officer were later expanded and Les became a department head, overseeing all law enforcement and emergency services for NSWC Indian Head. Les retired from civilian service after 24 years with the Federal Government. Les would later spend many years serving as a Driving Instructor with the College of Southern Maryland, teaching many teenagers how to drive for the first time.
Les was a parishioner of the Grace Lutheran Church and School in La Plata, Maryland.
Les enjoyed taking road trips to various destinations with his wife on his Harley Davidson, boating, fishing, and golfing.
Funeral services for Les were private. Interment took place at Mt. Rest Cemetery in La Plata, Maryland.
