Leta K. Brown was born December 31, 1953, in Wharton Texas to Eleanor Ballard Sewell and James Briton Sewell. She was their 1st child to be born at a hospital and was "stubborn" having to be delivered by cesarean birth to make sure she survived. Always feeling deeply loved by both parents her whole life, Kathy as she ended up being called, Leta, also Kat, Aunt Kathy and Chatty Kathy answered to all. She married young, loved being an independent person, an aunt to many and was dedicated to those loved and those who loved her back. She loved golf, exercising, yoga, reading and travel. She traveled with her mother on cruises, and they celebrated her daddy's 80th birthday on a cruise. She worked at four different golf courses in the area, and enjoyed the golfing industry very much, but mostly meeting and seeing so many different people from Brazoria and Matagorda counties. She also attended Brazosport College, taught aerobics, water aerobics and step and senior aerobics for 20 years in various places. Enjoyed sports, especially golf and watching the Houston Astros. She spent quite a bit of time in California where she golfed and learned a lot about yoga, getting a 200-hour certification to teach yoga and a yin teacher certification. She spent most of her life being conscious of her health, her weight and working to keep 50 lbs. she lost, off-which she did that for over 40 years. She grew up in the Baptist Church as a child. Sweeny 1st Baptist where her grandfather Ballard was a founder and there she remained and was baptized as a young girl. Kathy loved her family, her friends and the two men who meant the world to her. She did not love lightly but loved deeply. She will rest in peace knowing she led a full life and was loved by many. So will close with her favorite Bible verse. "Where there is despair, hope, where there is darkness, light and where there is sadness, joy. Grant that I may not seek to be consoled, as to console, to be understood, as to understand to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we pardon. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life."
Per Kathleen's request, services and burial will be private for family only. Services are under the direction of C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia Texas.
