Letha Marie Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on August 10, 1937, in Arkansas to Robert and Rosie (Cronk) Brown.
Letha graduated from New Deal High School and further pursued her education at business school in Fort Worth, Texas. It was there that she met her future husband, Ernest Arnold Smith. Their union was celebrated in 1955.
A woman of many talents, Letha cherished the simple pleasures of life. She found joy in reading Christian novels and had a remarkable ability to crochet. Her hands were always busy, whether repairing items around the house or tending lovingly to her cherished flowers. Letha was a devoted member of the Northside Baptist Church, where she served as the church clerk for many years.
Letha will be deeply missed by her son, Robert Smith of Abernathy, Texas, and her grandchildren, Jason Perkins, Chris Perkins, Stephen Tull, and Amber Tull. She cherished her role as a grandmother and was blessed with numerous great-grandchildren who brought her much happiness. Letha is also survived by her siblings, Dee Odom of Missouri, Rose Mary Carmen of Lubbock, Texas, Jerry Brown of Florida, Betty Rhines of Granbury, Texas, and Roberta Neel of Clyde, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Letha is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith, her son Jeffrey Smith, and her daughters Tina Perkins and Kathy Overstreet. She was also predeceased by her grandson Jesse Perkins and her siblings Robert Brown, Arthur Brown, Jessie Brown, Don Brown, and Billy Clark.
Letha Marie Smith's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She touched many lives with her warm spirit and will forever be remembered for her kindness and unwavering faith.
Services are pending at this time. Cremation is under the care of Abell Funeral Home and Flower shop of Abernathy, Texas.
