William Spence Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sanders Funeral Home - Lubbock on Nov. 28, 2024.
William Gene Spence, 68, of Lubbock, Texas passed away November 26, 2024.
Gene was born October 25, 1956 in Lubbock, TX to Robert Timothy Spence, Sr. and Videlia Ellen Spence.
Gene graduated from New Deal High school in 1974 and began working as an electric motor repairman for Brandon and Clark Electric. He retired after 25 years of service and moved with wife, Mary to New Life Ranch in Colcord Oklahoma. There he managed all sorts of building projects including building new staff housing, dorm, and a new chapel of which he was most proud. Gene was simply a genius with a block of wood. He used his God-given skill to the best of his ability. He could do any kind of building or remodeling work imaginable. Most of all, he was an expert-level electrician and cabinet-maker. He made many pieces of heirloom quality furniture that will be passed down to his descendants for generations to come.
Gene and Mary, whom he married on September 25, 1999 built many priceless memories at New Life Ranch over the next 8 years. They moved back to Lubbock in 2007 to be closer to grandkids. Gene worked for Lubbock County Appraisal District, First Baptist Church, and occasional remodeling jobs since moving back.
Loved ones include spouse Mary Spence; daughter Emily Edwards and husband Chancy; daughter Holly Pierce and husband Henry; Grandchildren Kaitlyn Pierce, Carson Edwards, Kelsea Pierce, Callie Edwards, and Kamryn Pierce; sister Diana White; brother Tim Spence and wife Jan; sister Carol Peterson; brother Howard Spence and wife LeAnn; brother, Eddie Spence; brother-in-law, Larry Estes and numerous nieces, nephews and their children whom he loved like his own grandkids.
Preceded in death by Videlia Spence (Mother), Robert Spence, Sr. (Father), and Catherine Spence (stepmother), and Dennis Spence (brother).
Gene will be remembered as a kind, joyful servant of the Lord. His Godly influence has had a profound influence on the lives of his daughters and their families. He was the spiritual leader of his extended family. He was humble of heart and soul. He was hospitable, always willing to serve a meal or give a kind word. He was a wise counselor and mentor. He was hard-working. He cared deeply about others, and he modeled the love of Christ for those he knew. Gene believed that there is a God of the universe, and He created the world. He created man in His image. He believed that Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, the spotless Lamb of God who gave up his life voluntarily, as a payment for the sins of those who follow him. Gene believed that Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death, and now sits at the right hand of God the creator of the universe. Gene had no doubt that Jesus was his Lord and Savior, and he will spend eternity with Him. Gene would want anyone reading this to know that they too can have this free gift of salvation, if they call on the name of Jesus, and repent from their sins and walk with the Lord.
Family visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2024 at Sanders Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024 at First Baptist Church Lubbock with Tim Thorton officiating. Graveside services will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
