Letitia "Tish" nee Towson Ewing, Age 104, of Media, Pennsylvania passed away on July 28, 2025, at Riddle Village Retirement Community in Media, PA.

Tish was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Joseph Phillip and Letitia Bird Towson on June 2, 1921. Having grown up during the Great Depression of 1929, Tish learned many life lessons from an early age, which she later passed on to her children and grandchildren. After graduating from Seton High School in 1939, she went on to earn her R.N. degree from the Mercy Hospital of Nursing in 1942.

Upon graduation, Tish enlisted in the United States Army where she served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, from January 1943 until January 1946. After completing basic training, she was sent to the United Kingdom, along with 26 other nurses who were tasked with setting up station hospitals in multiple locations outside of London. They would later learn this was in preparation for the Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Tish returned to the United States in June 1945. Soon after, the War ended while she was waiting to be transferred to the Pacific Theater.

After discharge from the Army, Tish went to work at the Veterans Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland, treating wounded soldiers returning from the War. It was there that she met Jim Ewing, a young Navy doctor. After Jim finished his military service, Jim and Tish married and moved to Delaware County, PA, so that Jim could continue his medical training in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. They eventually moved to Rose Valley, PA, where they raised their four children. After Jim's death, Tish moved to Riddle Village Retirement Community in Media, PA, where she resided for the past 28 years.

For many years Tish enjoyed sailing with Jim on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She loved reading, dancing, indulging on a Hershey's chocolate bar (or two), and being involved with her children and grandchildren.

Tish is survived by her three daughters: Tish (Tom), Patti (Victor), Mary Beth (Dan); her daughter-in-law, Cindy; her sister, Bethanne Towson; her eight grandchildren; Kathryn (Patrick), Ross, Megan Letitia, Laura (Armand), Kelly, Thomas "T.C." (Jade), Neil and Joseph; and her two great grandchildren, James and Iris Letitia.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Harvey Ewing; her son, James Harvey Ewing, Jr.; and her siblings, Joy Towson Knight and Joshua Bird Towson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The School in Rose Valley, 20 School Lane, Rose Valley, PA, 19063 or to a charity of your choice. A link to this organization can be found at the bottom of this page.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Nursing staff and the Dining Room Service staff at The Monticello House at Riddle Village who have taken such wonderful care of Mom for the past five years, and to the team from Main Line Health HomeCare & Hospice.

Family and friends are invited to attend Tish's viewing on Thursday August 7, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Cavanagh Patterson Family Funeral Home 43 E. Baltimore Ave., Media. A funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment in Media Cemetery.
