Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA for Leverta Begnaud Castille, age 94, who passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at her residence in Carencro.
The Reverend Bill Melancon will officiate the service. Her grandson, Andre’ Benoit F.D., will assist with the service. Readers will be her grandchildren, Alissa Doucet and Adam Benoit. Music selections will be performed by Marc Conques and Hannah Canter. Internment will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens of Lafayette, LA.
Leverta was born and raised on a farm in Bristol, LA; she and her siblings worked hard as many did as children of the Great Depression. A firm belief in hard work and fortitude carried her into a lifelong career in the banking industry. Ms. Castille began working at Guaranty Bank (Chase Bank) in the early 1950’s and concluded her career with Rayne State Bank. Ms. Castille enjoyed working and mentoring all her colleagues in the banking industry.
After her retirement, Ms. Castille enjoyed spending time with her card club friends and trips to the casino. She was also an avid reader of both novels and her daily newspaper.
However, her biggest pride and joy came from the people who called her “Granny”. She adored her three grandchildren and four great-grandsons. She was happiest when they came by to visit. She always made sure they had plenty to eat, especially her home-made goodies.
Ms. Castille was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro. She was a member of the St. Anne Society for many years and served as one of the founding members of the Catholic Daughters of America in Carencro.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise Benoit and husband Kinney of Carencro; three grandchildren, Alissa Doucet (Austin) of Whiteville, LA, Adam Benoit (Brandon) of Dallas, TX, and Andre’ Benoit (Brandi) of Lafayette, LA; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Doucet, Tucker Doucet, Konner Doucet, and James Benoit; and three sisters, Georgie Courville, Myrtle Champagne, and Anna Jean Ardoin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delpha “Pat” Castille; parents, Noah Begnaud and the former Blanche Leger; three brothers, Leroy Begnaud, Steffan Begnaud, and Aleus Begnaud; and five sisters, Emma Lena Duhon, Betty Broussard, Rose Martin, Edna Faul, and Elda Winn.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, resuming Friday morning at 8:00 am until service time on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm Thursday at Walters Funeral Home. An additional rosary will be recited by the St Anne Society at 9:00 am Friday morning.
Pallbearers will be Adam Benoit, Austin Doucet, Hunter Doucet, Wayne Courville, Ronald Ardoin, and Todd Duhon. Honorary pallbearers will be Tucker Doucet, Konner Doucet, and James Benoit.
Sincere gratitude goes to her oldest and dearest friend, Eula Miller. She treasured her rekindled friendship with Eula and loved reliving the good ole days in Bristol.
