Obituary published on Legacy.com by Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home - New Castle on Nov. 18, 2025.
With deepest sadness, on July 16, 2025, after years of battling the effects of multiple strokes, Lewis took his last breath and is now in eternal peace. He was 73 years old.
Lew was born June 9, 1952, in
Wilmington, Delaware to the late Augustine and Norina (Vannucci) Indellini.
Lew was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after 37 years of service. Prior to becoming a Supervisor Lew was a Letter Carrier and Wilmington Manor was his route for many years where he made many friends during that time. He served in leadership roles for both the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. During his retirement he then became at courier at Parcels Inc. in Wilmington, at which he would say "this is the best job" he worked until his stroke in 2013.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Phillies fan. He loved listening to T-Mac and Kruck call the games while he was also counting down to the start of the Steelers training camp.
He was a member of the St. Anthony's club in New Castle where he served as an officer for several years, also an active member of the St. Anthony's Society, and President of the St. Anthony's Celebration Committee. He held this title with great pride as he would work all year to raise funds through various events and he especially loved the annual Palm Sunday breakfast where he would give an uplifting speech about the Italian community and promote the upcoming three-day event in June. He also was a member and served as an Officer at St. Gabriel's lodge in New Castle.
He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in New Castle where he also served on the Parish Council for several years.
He had great pride in his Community and the City of New Castle, in 1994 he was elected to the Trustees of New Castle Common where he served a 12-year term. He would be most influential for his time as the Chair of the Property Development Committee and his efforts to pave the way to restore the old Bellanca Hangar.
Lew loved most of all, the time he spent with his family, and Sundays were his favorite day of the week. Even in his final weeks he would ask what day it was and was most excited when it was finally Sunday. Prior to his stroke, he was notorious for doing home projects around the house. So much so that it was not uncommon for his wife to go out for the afternoon and come home to a new creation by Lew. He also had great pride for his backyard and his grapevine. He will also be known for the man who moved his shed more than anyone ever thought was needed or possible.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara and nephew, Jason. His brothers-In-Law Walter, Philip, James, Richard and Bob and sister-in-Law, Betty (Liz).
Lew is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Felecine of 48 years. His son, Lew Jr. (Gaby) and daughter, Adrienne. Lew had such adoration for his grand-pups Franklin, Clementine, and Reds, and the late Olive whom we know met her pop at the rainbow bridge for a long overdue walk.
He also survived by his brother, Augie; his sisters-in-law Rita, Bernadette, Catherine and Theresa; his brothers-in-law Joseph (Debby), William, and David in addition to many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends can call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 101 W 6th Street,
New Castle, DE on Tuesday, July 22 from 5p-8p and are also invited to attend the Mass of the Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 23 at 10:30A at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Caste, DE. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude towards Lew's Christiana Hospital at Home care team, especially his NP, Sam. Their care allowed Lew to stay in the comfort of his home. Additionally, much appreciation to all family and friends who help supported Lew and his family throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lew's name to the
American Stroke Association and Faithful Friends Animal Society (or your pet rescue of choice)
