On Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Oakwood Health and Rehab Center, after MANY episodes of "bouncing back," God whispered to Lewis "Mike" Reynolds that his bouncing days were over and it was time for him to move to his heavenly home where he could do a "different kind of bounce" and at 5:05am, Mike answered the call to go home with his Heavenly Father, his Maker.
Mike was born on September 17, 1947 to the late James W. Reynolds, Sr. and Emma B. Reynolds. He was raised in Big Island, VA. He received his formal education in the Bedford County Public School System; graduating from Susie G. Gibson High School. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Sharon Baptist Church in Big Island, VA. After school, he was employed at several companies to include Owens Illinois, Big Island prior to his move to Peekskill, New York. Upon his return to Bedford County, he was employed by Alcoa Aluminum and then the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Bedford County, where he served as Supervisor for thirty plus years until his retirement. He loved Nascar, as is obvious; a "BIG FAN" of the Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., #3, fishing with his sons, playing baseball and loved hanging out on the side lines watching, yelling and coaching his sons, who were award winning sports figures in the Bedford County School System.
In addition to his parents, James W. & Emma B. Reynolds and his wife, Rita Overstreet Reynolds, he was preceded in death by one brother, James "Jimmy" Reynolds, Jr. and one sister, Jean "Bogoloo" Bunch.
His memories will be cherished by his children, Gregg Reynolds (April) of Bedford, VA, Anthony Reynolds (Alex) of Roanoke, VA, Lewis Michael Reynolds, Jr. "Zerno" of Big Island, VA, Eric Reynolds, Buckingham, VA, two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Reynolds (Judy) of Big Island, VA, Odell "Seddie" Reynolds (Debi) of Beacon, NY; four sisters, Rebecca "Beck" Millender (Jim) of Wappingers Falls, NY, Reverend Judy Watkins (Jimmy) of Forest, VA, Denise "DeDe" Edwards (Calvin) of Big Island, VA, and Debbie Ullah of Stafford, VA; five grandchildren, Adrianna Reynolds of Bedford, VA, Noah, Noella, Ella & Starr Reynolds of Roanoke, VA, three great-grandchildren, Ma'Raya Reynolds, Kashton & La'Riyah Smith of Roanoke, VA. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and very special Oakwood staff friend, Jaelynn Bryant, who he nicknamed, "Lil Bit".
Mike was known for his "crazy" sense of humor and just being "frisky". Some called him "scrunion" and it's never been known "why". He enjoyed life to the fullest and celebrated life and enjoyed sharing his joys with everyone in his presence. He is already missed by all.
