Lewis Gerald Stiles, age 86, of Covington, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service. Born on March 19, 1939, in Covington, to the late Parnell and Frances Stiles, Gerald lived a life marked by hard work, devotion, and quiet strength.

Gerald dedicated 46 years of his career to the MWR Department (Navy Support Activity), serving as a Supervisor. His commitment was so strong that even after retiring, he returned to work the very next morning. A true servant at heart, Gerald was known for his tireless work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was carpentry, gardening, or simply being the dependable neighbor, Gerald found joy in doing for others and never expected anything in return.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Gerald lived for his family. He was fiercely protective of his daughters and set the example of what a man should be; honest, faithful, and true. Though strict with his children, he softened as a grandfather, showering his grandchildren with unconditional love and proudly supporting them in everything they did.

Gerald found joy in the simple things of life like cutting grass, tending to his garden large enough to feed half of Tipton County (with much of it given away), and keeping his yard flawless. His vehicles were always spotless, his clothes neat, and his daily routines steady. Known as the original "low rider" with his britches, he had a quiet humor and a signature "hmmm" that spoke volumes without the need for many words.

Faith was the foundation of Gerald's life. He read his Bible daily, served as Brotherhood President at his church, and was always one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. Often making sure the lights were off and the grass was cut. He was one of the original members of the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief team, traveling on numerous mission trips, and lived out his faith through service to others. He also proudly led the football chain gang for the Covington Chargers for 35 years, faithfully supporting his community and its youth.

Even during a short stay at a nursing home while recovering from a back injury, Gerald's kind and welcoming spirit shone through, earning him the nickname of "the greeter." Always a man of few words, his presence spoke louder than anything he could have said.

Above all, Gerald was a man of integrity and love. Married for 63 years, he often said he only fell in love once, and that was enough for a lifetime. He will be remembered as a saint of a man, deeply respected and dearly loved by all who knew him.

Gerald was preceded in death by his late wife, Margaret "Peggy" Stiles and one sister, Carolyn Glenn. He is survived by his two daughters, Beth (Tommy) Dunavant and Gera (Jody) Pannell; one sister, Sue Roark; five grandchildren, Cheyenne Dunavant, Brycen Pannell, Brad (Sarah) Dunavant, Tyler Pannell, and Ethan Pannell; and two great-grandchildren, Andi and Bo Dunavant.
