In Loving Memory of

Liam Raether

Liam was born on November 19, 2012 as Lily Sue Raether. With a shock of bright red hair, Liam was fearless. He loved cats, swimming, and the friends he met at day care. He enjoyed spending time with his cousins and during several summers he spent an entire week with them in the Boundary Waters, which was impressive for someone who loved technology from the moment he had his first tablet. He adored his little brother and the two shared a bond that only siblings can, supporting each other during hard times and showing up for each other, whether it was going to Jackson's soccer games, Liam's band concerts, or teaming up against their parents.

As Liam grew older, he fell in love with computers, customizing his home-built desktop until it was unrecognizable (and unusable by anyone but him). He spent countless hours using the medium of online games to design living spaces and to create stories with his friends. For several summers, his room became a makeshift movie studio, where Liam and his friends would spend hours coming up with characters, scripts, and costumes. He was particularly fond of scary movies and anime. His passion and knowledge of music also went far beyond his years. Liam voraciously devoured new music, whether it was something truly new or it was something his parents listened to when they were growing up. Liam jumped at the chance to go to live concerts and enjoyed playing the trumpet.

Liam's personality was too big for words. He could be intense, loud, and overflowing with energy, one moment, then shy and secretive, the next. Liam wanted to fit in, but he refused to compromise any part of himself to do so. He would do anything for his friends, and gave generously, not holding anything back, not even himself. He was a world onto himself and ours is a little poorer having lost him. After 12 years of chaos, joy, tears, happiness, and most of all, love for his family, he left us on September 15, 2025. His passing will leave a hole in the lives he touched that can never be filled.

Liam is survived by his parents, Jason and Julie Raether, and his younger brother, Jackson; his grandparents, Sue Raether, Sue and Randy Meyers, and Susi Ziegler; his Aunt and Uncles, Keri and Ryan Cavitt, Edie and Lewis Goodell, and Scott Ziegler; his Cousins, Leif and Evan Cavitt, and Elise Ziegler; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Ken Raether and Bob Ziegler.

A Celebration of Liam's life will be held at 12:00 PM, with visitation from 10:00 to 12:00 PM, on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S Robert St., West St. Paul.
