Libby L. Sass

Libby L. Hayes (Sass), 83, died Thursday, May 12th, 2022 at home. She was the daughter of the late Birchard and Dorothy T. Hayes, a loving mom and grandma and gentle friend to all that knew her. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Libby grew up in the New Paltz, NY area. She retired in 2000 after more than 40 years as a custodian for the Syracuse City School District. Libby loved animals especially her dog, Tina, who she loved dearly and enjoyed playing bingo and time spent with family at cookouts and parties. She also enjoyed shopping in her electric cart, people watching, country music and coloring.
Libby was predeceased by her granddaughter, Brittany Sass, her former husband, Chester H. Sass, and siblings: Richard Hayes, Carol Pangborn, and Peggy Taylor.
Surviving are her four children: Debbie Sass of Syracuse, Chester H., Sass, Jr. of Waco, TX, Linda Sass (Mauro) of Liverpool, and Gary Sass of Lyncourt; many grandchildren: Chester "Chip" (Theresa) Sass, Amy (Dave) Sass (Bonem), William W. (Amanda) Sass Sr., Kevin M. (Andrea) Sass, Patti Sass, Vicki Sass (Mulverhill), Ashely Sass, and Patrick Sass; many great grandchildren; a brother, Birchard Hayes of Washington, DC; and by several nieces, nephews and friends including her best friend, Cora Bailey of Pulaski.
Contributions in Libby's memory may be made to a local animal shelter of your choice.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. A brick will be placed at the Butterfly Garden in Liverpool in Libby's memory.
