Lillian "Lil" (Schaper) Countess, age 91 of Chesapeake, VA passed away on May 30, 2025. Lil was born July 20,1933 in Baltimore, MD to the late William and Anna Marie (Nollmyer) Schaper.

Lil was one of 11 children raised on a family farm off Dogwood Road in Baltimore. The hard work she did as a child carried her through her adult life. She began her secretarial career in the 1950's at Westinghouse, and finished at McCallum Testing Labs in Chesapeake, VA retiring in 2012. She was active as an officer of Parents Without Partners (PWP), Tidewater chapter, and spent every spare moment enjoying her family and dancing the night away with friends. Lil took great pride in her yard, especially her beautiful roses. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, especially to Hawaii and Alaska. She was a great neighbor and friend to many, intentionally bumping into strangers just to start a conversation and compliment them.

Lil was preceded in death by her parents; her Aunt Min, who raised her like her own, and siblings; Bill, Richard, Arnold, Thelma, Gertrude and Connie. She is survived by her son, Jeff Countess (Marta) of Allentown, PA; daughter, Stacie Steele (David) of Toano, VA; grandchildren; Ashley Mau (Jeff), Aryn Marin (Justin), Tyler Countess, Brooks Countess and five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Presley, Jonah, Rion and Wren, and sisters Patsy, Betty, Frieda and Sharon. And we can't forget her pound puppy, Maggie.

A celebration of life will be held at Wicker's Crab Pot in Chesapeake, Virginia on July 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., which would have been Lil's 92nd birthday.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Lil received from Emma's Place and Bristol Hospice in her final months. Memorial contributions may be made in Lil's name to Reject's Sanctuary for Senior and Disabled Dogs, 3449 Robinson Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
