Lillian Eleanor Frisch, age 89, entered the arms of her Savior on July 22, 2025. Lillian was most recently a resident of a memory care unit in Lake Ridge, Virginia, where she lit up the room with her smile. Lillian's smile reflected her beautiful soul, and all who met her warmed up to her immediately.
Lillian's long and fruitful life began on June 3rd, 1936, as the first child born to George and Elizabeth Twarosch of Queens, New York. She graduated from Queens College with a teaching degree. Lillian married her sweetheart, John Frisch, on July 26th, 1959. At the time of her death, Lillian and John were just days away from celebrating their 66th anniversary.
Lillian began her teaching career on Long Island, New York, and it's certain some of her 2nd grade students remember her fondly to this day. After the birth of their first child, Lillian embarked on her dual career of stay-at-home parent and domestic engineer extraordinaire. In 1964, Lillian and John moved to Vestal, New York, with their son and daughter. Shortly after settling down in Vestal, they welcomed another daughter.
During their 35 years in Vestal, Lillian was known for her faith-driven generosity, kindness, and volunteer work. Whether she was teaching Sunday school to Kindergarteners, helping to resettle refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Ukraine, teaching English as a second language, providing free day care to struggling new mothers or spending time with the home-bound and hospitalized, Lillian's smile always shined bright, just like her life.
Like her father, Lillian was a gifted organist. Her children recall many special times around the organ singing along to their mother's accomplished playing. At Christmas, Lillian hosted parties where she passed out songbooks and filled the home with joyous holiday music and singing. Lillian also played the organ at her church for many years.
Lillian was a devoted mother who could make her children laugh with her silliness no matter how cranky they were. After her children married and started their own families, Lillian reveled in her Grandma role, bestowing on her grandchildren all the love, generosity and creativity she had to give.
Lillian and John moved to northern Virginia after John's retirement to be near their children and grandchildren. As Lillian's memory changes progressed, she and John moved into a continuum of care community that allowed Lillian to receive assisted living care, then skilled nursing and memory care. John was by her side daily, holding her hand and making her laugh for the last two years of Lillian's life.
Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Martha Erickson, and her grandson Tyler McGinn.
In addition to her husband John, Lillian is survived by her brother Walter Twarosch (Yoke); son John Frisch (Feng), daughter Karen Lehman (Doug), and daughter Dianne McGinn (Ron). Lillian is also survived by 4 of her 5 grandchildren, from oldest to youngest, Michelle McGinn Caldwell, Monica Lehman, Melinda Lehman Brown, and John Thomas Frisch; and great-grandchildren Thomas Caldwell, Simeon Brown, and Lillian Caldwell (her namesake). Lillian is also survived by her 8 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for Lillian Frisch will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Westminster at Lake Ridge Chapel,12191 Clipper Drive, Lake Ridge, VA.
