It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lillian Adkins Pratt (73) of Berea, Kentucky. Born in Jackson County KY to Alpha Langdon Adkins and Fred Adkins, Lillian was the sixth of eight siblings.
She graduated from Jackson County Highschool and received her associate's degree at Midway College. Lillian is preceded in death by her elder siblings, (Imogene Higgins, Danny Adkins, Datha Pratt, Willma "Natasha" Graziano and Amy Flannery) as well as her son, James "Ricky" Evans. She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Pratt; their daughter, Angela Evans; and grandchildren, Katharina and Quentin Cope; many nieces and nephews; and her younger siblings, Thelma Burton and Jim Adkins.
Lillian was known for her sharp wit, unwavering belief in angels as well as her dedication to helping others. She loved "playing in the mud" and working with stained glass to create beautiful pieces she gifted to her family and friends. You may be able to find some pieces from "Lil'Pots." She was lovingly supported and cared for by her husband, Doug of 40 years. They were inseparable, rarely leaving each other's side. She cared deeply about her son and daughter.
Lillian graduated from the New Opportunity School for Women (NOSW) on the early 2000s. She and her husband volunteered at the school for several years. She was passionate about supporting other women from Appalachia find their voice and a way to change their stories. Lillian was incredibly proud to travel with a group of graduates to New York to advocate for the NOSW. Her story was featured in "I Am Not a Nobody" by Jane B. Stephenson and Crystal White Kieloch.
Friends and Family are invited to a Celebration of Life on December 20th in her hometown of Berea. Please reach out to Angela Evans and RSVP here. https://forms.gle/UR2178ML8jdkFt6Z7
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we request that donations be made to the Lillian Pratt scholarship fund for the NOSW (nosw.org/) so that she can continue her mission to raise up her sisters in this life and the next.
Donations can be made through givebutter.com/nosw by selecting "Give in honor/memory" with a note for Lillian Pratt Scholarship or mailed to "New Opportunity School Foundation" at PO Box 273 Berea KY.
