Lillian “Diane” or “Blue Grandma” Thompson, 68, of Lafayette, passed away at home September 23, 2025. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana January 13, 1957 to the late Oscar and Jonnie Connell. She was a graduate of Jeff High School in 1976. She then worked at National homes and the Staley south plant for years. She then began working for herself turning all types of rental properties in the Lafayette and West Lafayette area alongside her sister/best friend, Sue Hinman & brother-in-law, Wayne Hinman and other family members. She was a very hard worker and a tough woman that always took pride in her work. Her mother Jonnie lived with her the last 13 years, and they went everywhere together. She loved feeding the squirrels, birds and any other wildlife that showed up in front of her home with corn. She was a big sports fan and loved Purdue football and basketball, the Colts, Cubs and Pacers. However, she was the biggest fan of all her grandchildren in their sporting events. She never missed a game or a match. She always loved to share her grandchildren’s success with her friends and siblings. She was a very proud and wonderful Mother and grandmother and also a great daughter and sister. Her family was more important than anything and she showed it with her love, generosity and willingness to do anything that was ever needed for them. Diane was such a great woman, mother, and grandmother. This loss will be deeply felt by all for a long time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Kathy Hough, and Jimmy Connell. Survived by son, Josh (Claire) Thompson, grandchildren, Ella, Caitlin, Eli, and Henry, sister, Sue (Wayne) Hinman, brother, David (Kristy) Connell.
Visitation will held Monday September 29, 2025 from 1:00pm to 2:45pm (EST) followed by the Eulogy by Ella & Eli Thompson at 2:45 until the hour of Funeral Mass at 3:00 pm all at St. Charles Catholic Church, Otterbein, IN.
