Lillian Geraldine Townsend, 90, formerly of Granite City, IL, died Thurs. Sept. 18, 2025 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

She was born Jan. 27, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to the late Mary (Chandler) Wainwright and Gerald Hinman.

Her marriage to Orra Milton Townsend III took place July 10, 1954 in Granite City. He preceded her in death June 26, 1994.

Lillian had worked as a bus driver for Granite City School district for many years. She served as a Boy Scout leader and later with the Navy Mothers. She loved to bowl and square dance. In her younger years, she was a CB Club member and had served on the Madison County Sheriff Reserve. In her later years, she served as the President of Residents at Knollwood Retirement Community. She was VERY proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and took every opportunity she could to tell others about her family.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Patricia (Kevin) Kolis of Shiloh, IL, and JoAnn (Tom) Beard of Robinson, IL, 3 sons: Thomas (Debra) Townsend of Whitney, TX, Terry (Carol) Townsend of Troy, IL, and Larry (Donna) Townsend of Fairview Heights, IL, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and extended famly.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Wayne Williams, and a son, Orra Milton Townsend.
