Norman Michael Martinez, 95, of Granite City, IL died on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Stearns Nursing & Rehab in Granite City, IL.

He was born on June 6, 1930 in Granite City, IL to Marcellino and Jesucita (nee: Rangel) Martinez.

Norman married Norma York in Granite City on December 11, 1954.

The U.S. Army veteran served during the Korean War. He retired as a millwright after 50 years working for A.O. Smith, Granite City Steel and Boeing. Norman was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an umpire for softball, baseball and basketball for the Granite City Park District.

Norman is survived by 2 grandchildren: Michelle Fritz and Elizabeth Martinez; 2 great grandsons: Mason Fritz and Aden Fritz; his in laws: Robert & Donna York, Patricia Schubert and Tony York and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, Norman is preceded in death by a son, Craig Michael Martinez; 4 brothers: Alfonzo Martinez, Michael Martinez, Joseph Martinez and Anthony Castillo and 5 sisters: Lupe Martinez, Irene San Souci, Mary Phillips, Effie Castillo and Theresa Kannady.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.
