Lily Painter Obituary

Lily Paul Painter passed away peacefully on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2025, in her lifelong home of Fort Worth, Texas, just eight days before her 100th birthday.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas to Joseph and Venita Paul on March 25, 1925, Lily attended Mt. Carmel Academy at All Saints Church in Fort Worth. A priest once commented on her frequent tardiness, saying, "a diller, a dollar, a 12 o'clock scholar." She continued this pattern throughout much of her life, so if she's a few minutes late for her service, the family appreciates your understanding.

Lily worked as an administrative assistant at Freight Master and was eventually courted by and married Thomas "Tom" Painter. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 1999. Lily was actively involved in the Women of Rotary, the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Club, Ridglea Country Club, and a dedicated volunteer at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Above all, she devoted her life to her family, filling her century with love, friendship, and cherished memories.

An only child, Lily formed close, lifelong bonds with her cousins, whom she considered sisters, including Mary Jo Dinkins, Sadie Goodenough, and Ann Mifflin. She had a deep love for the music of her generation, particularly the big bands, and enjoyed playing bridge with neighbors on Hulen Court and friends at The Vantage at Cityview well into her upper 90's. Lily took great pride in her Irish heritage. She found joy in her family, who were the center of her world. Though her ability to travel was limited, her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She also had a sweet tooth and loved homemade fudge, with Danny Mifflin's fudge being one of her favorites!

Lily is survived by her children, Joni Goeders and Brad Hurst; her grandchildren, Bill Hurst, Kelly Severson, and Lisa Hurst; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Taylor, Madison, Haley, Emily, Wyatt, Holly and Mia; and four great-great-grandchildren, Olivia, Rylee, Liam, and Lily Rose. She was predeceased by her son, William Roland Hurst and grandson, David Paul Marburger.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Service beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Thompson & Son Funeral Service, 6009 Wedgwood Drive, Fort Worth. A reception will follow at the home of Joni Goeders, 6610 Sabrosa Court E, Fort Worth.

Memorials In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent dePaul at St. Andrew Catholic Church to provide food and assistance to those in need.

Special thanks to Lily's family friend and caretaker of many years, Susan Ford, caretaker and hairdresser, Kristi Hicks and the many caretakers at Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living.

Lily's legacy of grace, love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Lily's legacy of grace, love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her...
I am thankful for having known Lily Paul Painter. She was a light in my life in an oft times dark world.
I often reminded Lily that I am her favorite son-in-law and she would smile and reply of course you are, your my only son-in-law!
I saw the angels comforting Lily thru to her last breath, I know she lives on in all our hearts and in heaven...
