Lily M. (DuMarce) Renville was born on October 6, 1944, at her home in Veblen, SD, to Samuel DuMarce Sr. and Eva Ella (Robertson) DuMarce. She attended Wahpeton Indian Boarding School through the 8th grade and later obtained her GED in 1973 from the University of Tennessee. Lily worked as a switch board operator and then finished her career as a dietician with Indian Health Service for 30 years.

In 1963, Lily met Benjamin Lee White, and from that relationship she had two children, Scott E. DuMarce and William Travis Huls. She later met Marvin Young, with whom she had two children, Rhonda DuMarce and Kim Young. Lily also shared a long-term partnership with Robert (Bob) White Sr., and together they had two children, Ethan DuMarce and Marlena DuMarce. Erika Renville was born to Samuel D. Barse and Lily Renville. On August 21, 1991, Lily married Magnus Renville, the love of her life. During their marriage, Erika Renville was adopted by Magnus.

In her earlier years she liked to crochet Afghans until it got too hard on her arthritis. She enjoyed playing bingo-where she was the fastest dauber you'd ever see-and play her solitaire handheld game. She was Elvis Presley's number one fan and loved his music. She was always supporting her brothers, and later her nephews, when they played hanpa apena or moccasin game. She spoke the Dakota language and taught many others. In the summers, you could find her tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and taking care of her chickens. She took care of everyone, her home was a safe space, and you always had a place to go at Lily's. She loved all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews dearly. Lily passed away at her home on January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Lily is survived by her children Scott E. DuMarce, Rhonda DuMarce, Kim Young, Travis Huls, Ethan DuMarce, Marlena DuMarce, and Erika (Jonathan) Renville; her grandchildren that she lovingly raised Angel (Keith) DeCoteau, Michael DuMarce, Jaleesa Renville, Chauncey White; step-daughters Janel Many Lightnings and Valerie Renville; step-son Terry Renville; her sisters Clarine "Cisti" Everett and June Rose (Robert) Blanton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lily is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Eva Ella DuMarce; her husband Magnus Renville; her sisters Florine "Toto" Garcia, Lucy DuMarce LaCroix, and Agnes DuMarce; her brothers Sam Alex "Caske", Samuel Jr. "Sonny," Hazen, Sampson, and Levi "Hepi" DuMarce; and her grandchild Justine DuMarce.
