Linda Joyce Carpenter, 81, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Linda was born September 8, 1941, to Peter "Pete" Baggett and Gladys Comer Baggett in Purdon, Texas. Raised in the country Linda was not afraid of working. She worked hard all her life, she attended Corsicana schools, graduated high school in 1959. At the age of 14 she met the love of her life, Sonny Carpenter. Sonny and Linda married June 19, 1959. They lived and worked together for the next 50 years. Linda worked at Adams Hat Factory along with other members of her family. She and Sonny owned Carpenter Grocery for 37 years. Many years they sold gas as well as food. A lot of the time you could see Linda with her foot stool cleaning the windows of trucks as she was pumping gas. Later years she was known for the famous Carpenter hamburgers and fried pies. The secret to her pies went with her. She'd say, "No that's mine only." Linda and Sonny worked together and loved their family, friends and neighbors. Corsicana and surrounding area meant the world to them both.
They both were members of the Central Texas Quarter Horse Association and Linda was a member of the Texas Barrel Racing Association. She won trophies and ribbons barrel racing her horses. Her love for animals showed in the care she gave her horses and dogs.
Linda accepted the Lord at an early age. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Linda was a Christian and lived her life as a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Neil R. Baggett. Linda now joins the love she missed so badly; her husband and best friend Ernest "Sonny" Carpenter. Leaving behind to remember her love and laughter, good times and bad are her loving brother Charles Leon Baggett of Decatur and little sister she loved so much Gail Baggett Hoffman. Sister in laws Othera Carpenter Barlow and LaDena Alexander Baggett. Many nieces, nephews and lifetime friends. Linda loved everyone.
Pallbearers will be her family and friends.
Her last words to her niece were: "Hey girl. I came in first. See you later."
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home followed by Graveside Service at 12:30 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
