Linda "Linny" Norene Kurns, 76, passed away November 21st, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with her family by her side. She was born October 3rd, 1948, to Jimmy "Edgar" and Fern Abbott in Gracemont, Oklahoma. There, she grew up with 5 other siblings, helping her family to run their farm.
In 1964, she met her first love, Ronald McCune. Together, Ron and Linda were high school sweethearts and began their relationship by writing each other love notes. They later married in 1967, and had two children together, LaDawna and Stephen McCune.
Linda worked as a clerical assistant and secretary. She was very proud to have worked as Dale Robertson's personal assistant. She also assisted her husband's business by managing the books for Ron's Lawn Care.
Later in life, Linda met her second love, Gary Kurns. They met on December 30th, 2004, and married exactly one year later. Since being together, the two religiously upheld their Friday Night Dates to dinner and the movies. On Sundays, they would take their dog Liddy to Scissor Tail Park for the farmer's market.
Linda used gardening and landscaping as a creative outlet. She enjoyed keeping a beautifully decorated yard and maintained a garden for many years. She also brought her creativity inside her home. She enjoyed adding home pieces that reminded her of nature. Linda would often redecorate as she was constantly inspired by new pieces. Her home is a true reflection of her interests and personality. Every day she looked forward to the LA Times Crossword Puzzle and Wonderword, and she completed them for the last 20+ years. Shopping was one of Linda's favorite activities. She was extremely proud of her clothing, jewelry, and shoe collection. She was also extremely generous with her collection and loved to spoil her daughter and granddaughters.
Linda also enjoyed travelling the country. She would take her family on many excursions. Some of her favorite places to visit are Estes Park, CO, Eureka Springs, AR, Santa Fe, NM, and Branson, MO. Linda was such a traveler, she became a regular at some of her favorite spots. One of her favorites was the Apple Blossum Inn in Eureka Springs. She created lifelong friendships in the towns she would visit, and she loved meeting new people and visiting old friends while travelling.
Art was a great passion for Linda. Specifically, she loved art that depicts nature and would fill her home with artists' originals including her husband's photography. She treasured the aspen tree because of their beautiful coloring of red, orange, and yellow during autumn. Aspen landscapes were one of her favorite artistic subjects to use in her home. Her favorite artist was Georgia O'Keeffe. Not only did she love her art, but she also spent time researching her and learning about her life. Linda collected many books about Georgia O'Keeffe, visited the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum often, and toured both of Georgia's New Mexico homes, including Ghost Ranch. She was fascinated and inspired by Georgia's life and art.
To her grandchildren, she was known as Nina. Nina's love for her grandchildren was unbreakable. She enjoyed taking them to travel and explore the outdoors. Linda would jump at every opportunity to spend time with them and provided them with many unforgettable experiences.
Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald McCune, her father, Jimmy "Edgar" Abbott, and her brother, Roger Abbott.
