Linda Ellen Lamothe (Lehto), 77, of Swanzey, NH, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. Linda was born on July 5, 1947, to the late Miriam and Eugene Lehto, in Hartford, CT.
Her family moved to Sterling, MA where she attended school and was a member of the Wachusett Regional High School graduating class of 1965. She was an avid accordion player. After high school, she graduated from the School of Practical Art in Boston in 1969,where she met her husband to be James Lamothe of Leominster, MA. They were married in 1970. She worked at Hub Mail in Boston before moving to Windham, NH, where their one and only daughter Melissa was born. In 1973 they moved to Swanzey, NH, where Linda's parents owned property, and began their life of over 50 years there. Over the years she worked at Emerson School in Fitzwilliam, MRHS, then earned her teaching certificate from Franklin Pierce College where she went and taught art in the Monadnock Regional School District North elementary schools.
Linda was an extremely talented and creative artist who loved the beach and the outdoors. She enjoyed hikes up Gap Mountain, picking blueberries, gardening, playing the wash tub base, drawing, painting, cake decorating, about every craft possible and spending time with her family and friends. She loved Mickey Mouse and anything Disney. She enjoyed many trips to Disney World with her daughter and grandchildren. For nearly 50 years she was a dedicated member of the First Congressional Church of Swanzey, she volunteered for just about everything; deacon, bell choir, church suppers, scholarship committee and headed up wreath making for the church Christmas Fair for over 40 years. She also spent 30 plus years volunteering to run the sound for the Old Homestead. Over the years she enjoyed her bowling team at Yankee Lanes, her Extension (craft) Group, the Finnish American Club in Rutland, MA, especially the dances, chicken barbecues and her Craft/Woodcarving group with her dear friends. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage.
In 2001 she miraculously survived a catastrophic medical event, after 6 months in a coma and against all odds she lived. Her husband Jim gave her his kidney and 2nd chance at life. The Finns call this Sisu. Although she battled health issues for the next 24 years she was determined to continue doing the things she loved, spending time with family, art, crafts, craft fairs, bible study and her dedication to her church and church family. Linda's greatest loves were husband of 54 years, her family, her church and her little dog Sadie.
She is survived by her husband, James Lamothe; her daughter, Melissa Boisvert and her husband Joshua of Greenfield, NH; her grandson, Evan McCutcheon of Milford, NH; her granddaughter, Lily Farnum, and her husband Justin, great grandson Sebastian and great granddaughter Harley of Swanzey, NH; bonus grandchildren, Max Boisvert, Callie, and Liam of Peterborough, NH; her sister, Georgia Krivulka and her husband Tom of Connecticut; her sister-in-law Charlene McFarland (Lamothe) and her husband George of Franklin, MA; brother-in-law Robert Lamothe and his wife Yvonne; and sister-in-law Barbara Lamothe; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Congregational Church of Swanzey on March 29th at 4:00 PM, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PKD Foundation or First Congregational Church of Swanzey.
