Linda J. Mason
The world lost a truly incomparable force on October 20, 2025, when Linda Jean Mason (Kumer) passed away at the age of 68. Born March 3, 1957, in McKeesport, Linda spent her last moments at her home of 40 years, surrounded by her partner, Mark Place, and the comfort of a cherished stuffy from her granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgean Kumer, her beloved husband, Martin (Marty) Mason, and Martin's parents Robert (Bob) and Elizabeth (Betty) Mason.
Linda didn't just live; she lived fearlessly, without judgment, and on her own terms. She was the definition of strength, elegance, and unconditional love, a woman who chose joy even while navigating immense hardship. For twenty years, she fought complex health issues and then cancer with grit and grace, never letting the gravity of her daily battles dim her light. Her infectious joy and irreverent humor were a masterclass in deflecting attention from her own struggles, ensuring her focus remained entirely on others. Linda's unique power was her relentless selflessness-she showed up for everyone, day or night, and her ability to find a profound lesson in every struggle ensured her life was lived meaningfully.
Her unmatched impact was felt most deeply by her family. She was a mother and best friend to her sons: Joshua (Ashley), Matthew (Iris Reyes), and Christopher (Ciarra Johnson). They will forever cherish memories of her tackling them, getting kicked out of their sporting events for cheering too loud, and sharing her homemade sweets. She was a devoted baby sister to Diana J. Feller, with whom she spoke for an hour every morning. Linda was an extraordinary "Baba" to her granddaughter, Aubrey, sharing frequent FaceTime calls, playful songs created together, and a mutual fondness for chocolate and adding salt to everything. She was fond of the large family get-togethers with her in-laws where the conversation and coffee never stopped. She was also a dear friend to many, each of whom she cherished.
Though she lived simply, Linda's kindness spread wide. She volunteered at animal shelters, offered gift cards to strangers, mentored young adults experiencing homelessness, and taught anyone who asked how to cook. If life is measured by the magnitude of a person's impact, she gave us all far more than 68 years. The world has lost its brightest sparkle, but she will remain a powerful presence in our hearts.
Memorial visitation will be held at Beinhauer-Connell Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 27th, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Parish - St. Germaine Church (everyone please meet at the church), followed immediately by a procession to Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Washington Area Humane Society. Additionally, they ask that everyone honor Linda today and every day by performing small acts of kindness for others.
