Kay was born in Rockingham County to the late John Frank Carter and Mary Lemma Gammon. She was a dedicated member and a certified teacher with the Church of God. She loved to sing at church and was always ready to pray with or for anyone in need. Her faith was strong, and she stayed active in church no matter her health. She was a consistent example of faithfulness and had a kind, steady spirit. She was a great cook, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she raised her daughter with strong values. She deeply loved her family and was deeply loved in return.
Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Carter, Bernell Carter, and Clarence Carter, and her sisters, Geneva Pulliam and Faye Branch. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Larry Perkins; her daughter, Tina Kentrolis; and her grandson, Ricky Kentrolis and his wife, Kaleigh. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Carter and his wife, Linda; and her sister, Ruth McNeil; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Karen and Cathy at Ancora Compassionate Care (formerly Hospice) for their wonderful compassion and care over the last few months.
