Linda Sue Pierce, 76, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Linda was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 8, 1946, the daughter of the late Willard C. Fogleson and Betty (Lynn) Fogleson. Her family and best friend were with her until the end which brought her much comfort.
Surviving is her devoted husband Larry of 55 years - most of them good - except for that time she had him pinned against the house (in back yard) in her Cadillac furious at him because he bought a motorcycle. Also surviving is her daughter, Paige Warner (Richie) and their son, Nicklas, whom she said she would never go to for confession as he was contemplating joining the priesthood. Also surviving is her son, Corey (Kim) whom may have been miles away physically but was never miles away in her heart and their daughter Courtney who was the light of her grandma's eye. Boo (as Courtney called her) cherished the time she spent with her doing their favorite thing – cooking and baking. The family always laughed when remembering Courtney's special themed ninth birthday cake which Boo purchased from a bakery. To all our surprise, when the cake box was opened it read "Happy Birthday Zourtney". Boo wondered why the clerk taking the order asked her over and over again to confirm the spelling, but then it all made sense. Linda is survived by two sisters, Patricia (Chuck) Edgell and Nanci Ballantyne (Dave Belk). Also left behind to grieve with all of us is her best friend Rose who was her comfort and strength. Ramsey and Chewie (her two yorkies) will miss their mom who made sure they had a warm dinner including veggies at the same time every night, she said they knew if she was running a few minutes late.
Linda was an avid reader and was currently on her 8th kindle, each with thousands of books. She loved musical theatre and Paige will forever treasure her memories of traveling to London, with her, to experience Cats and Phantom of the Opera. She enjoyed her coffee, but it had to be good coffee and she would spare no expense to find the best. She spent her career as a legal secretary and was always the one we asked to author complaint letters. She was always willing to give her advice, whether you asked for it or not!
Linda joined the Catholic church in 2004 after much contemplation and soul searching but once completing RCIA, she grew in her faith and that is where she found her peace and comfort. Her conversion came as a surprise to her daughter who was told not to play with those catholic kids! After religious ed classes Linda would often call her daughter to tell her that everything she thought about the catholic faith was all wrong – she isn't wrong often! In 2007, she was successful in converting her daughter and grandson to the faith that she loved so dearly and was very proud of her grandson, the altar server.
Your suffering is over and now you hear with both ears, see with both eyes, and walk on both legs. You left us so quickly, but with many memories and you left your daughter with the gift that her faith was not lost but simply in need of repair. You will be missed by all that loved you as well as the Amazon delivery driver.
In lieu of flowers, please help to carry on donations my mother made to Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word, EWTN. So sorry to hear of Linda´s death. I´ve wondered where she moved to after working with her for a short time at Dietrich and Zody. We had lunch often and had lots of laughs. She had a great sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers for the family.
