Linda Roan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E.J. Fielding Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Sep. 25, 2025.
Linda Everett Roan, age 78, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. She was born on December 14, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Eugene Rembert Everett and Ora Nell Magee Everett. Linda resided in Jackson for 35 years, graduating from Provine High School in 1965. After high school, she attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, earning bachelor's degrees in English and Communications in 1969, followed by a master's degree in Communications 1970. She also joined Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority where she served as chapter president and met many of her lifelong friends. Although she had no siblings of her own, these women became her sisters in every sense of the word and treated each other as family throughout their lives. Following graduate school, Linda worked in the Communications Department for the Mississippi Research and Development Center until 1981, when her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. She went back to work in 1992 as the Director of Public Information for St. Tammany Parish Public Schools, where she served until her retirement in 2008. Amongst her many duties in informing the public and parents of district initiatives, she was critical in communicating to the media, offering official statements on behalf of the school system and was intricately involved in the Parish's response after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Linda was actively involved in the community and at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington, where she remained an active member until her passing, even continuing her participation with her Grace Gathering bible study group via video conferencing after no longer being able to attend in person. Linda loved her family and friends deeply and cherished her time spent with both. She is preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 56 years, Thomas V. Roan, Jr.; beloved sons, Jason E. Roan (Meredith) and Andrew W. Roan (Nichol); and five cherished grandchildren, Alexis, Tanner, Madeline, Landry, and Cooper. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mollie McDonald (George); nieces, Katie and Kelly; as well as her many Magee Family cousins and other relatives. The family wishes to thank her extended family, numerous friends and colleagues, and medical professionals for their love and support provided to Linda, particularly as she courageously fought her illnesses over the past 18 years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to National Jewish Health (respiratory diseases) in Denver, CO. https://www.nationaljewish.org/giving Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 129 North New Hampshire Street, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, Mississippi. E. J. Linda got a job for me in the Communications Department chairman's office where I worked with her during graduate school. We continued our friendship when we both ended up in Jackson furthering our careers and starting families. Always a faithful friend, Linda would share recipes, helpful homemaker tips and other wise advice. She was an encourager, supporter and a loyal confidant during that time. We exchanged Christmas cards over the years and had planned a visit before Covid. Sadly, that visit never happened. I'll always remember Linda with a grateful heart for the practical life's lessons she taught me as a young woman, mother and wife. I know her family will cherish fond memories of her gracious spirit. Very thankful for her friendship.

How blessed we were when our daughter, Meredith, married Jason and our families were joined. Linda was a wonderful wife, mother and beloved GG to her family and a thoughtful and concerned friend to all she knew and loved. Linda fought so hard to be with us all. Her devoted husband, Tom, was the most dedicated caregiver anyone could imagine. Our love and deepest condolences to the entire family. Linda will be greatly missed by all her had the pleasure of knowing her. With love, Terry and Ben Byers
