Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cotner Funeral Home on Jul. 18, 2025.
Linda L. Scheetz, beloved wife; devoted mother; cherished grandmother and great-
grandmother; loving sister and aunt; and loyal friend, was born April 9, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio
to Henry and Violet Huntwork; she died July 16, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Linda grew up in Pickerington, Ohio, but her home for almost 60 years was in Reynoldsburg. It
was there that she and Roger built a warm and loving home for their children, Mike, Jeff, and
Mindy. The joy of her family and home was surpassed only by the addition of her
granddaughters Jenneh and Kyla; grandsons Thomas and Max; and her great granddaughters,
Brinley and Ava.
Linda worked at Wesley Ridge (Barnes Center), where she lovingly cared for the residents there,
making sure they felt valued and loved. As a Custom Designer for Fisher's Gardens, Linda was
known for her beautiful, creative arrangements. Customers returned year after year for her
designs as well as her gardening advice. At home, Linda's flower beds were designed with the
same eye-catching creativity and she loved sharing them with friends and neighbors. Neighbors
often stopped by when walking past Linda's home to admire her plantings or to ask about a
certain plant. Linda's love for gardening and nature led her to become a Licking County Master
Gardener Volunteer where for almost 20 years she helped maintain the Entrance Garden at the
Licking County Extension Office, participated in the annual Licking County Annual Master
Gardener Conference, and gave dozens of talks and led demonstrations of container gardening.
Linda was a devoted and active member of Peace Church in Pickerington, Ohio, the same
church she attended and was active in growing up. Throughout her life, Linda was an active
church member serving in various leadership positions too numerous to mention but included
Kitchen Supervisor, Youth Leader, Work Camp Counselor, Camping Coordinator, Sunday School
Teacher, Nursery Volunteer, Landscape Committee Chair, Church Council Representative,
Emmaus Lay Director, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and more. Linda never asked others to
do more than she was willing to do herself, and her work ethic and example set a high bar for
all of us. As chair of the Peace Landscape Committee, Linda led a dedicated group of volunteers
to beautify the church grounds with beautiful containers and other plantings. She also led
efforts to establish and coordinate the Peace Community Garden that produced an enormous
harvest of vegetables that was donated to local food pantries. But probably most important,
Linda took seriously the call to "make Disciples," and never hesitated to extend an invitation to
church to friends and acquaintances alike. She also took seriously the responsibility to support
the faith walk of others, citing Proverbs 27:17(NIV) "As iron sharpens iron, so one person
sharpens another." Linda was known for her hand-written notes, personal texts, and phone
calls just to "check in." Whenever someone reached out with a prayer request, no matter
where she was or what she was doing, she'd respond with "I'm praying!"
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Melinda (Mindy) DeWeese; and
niece Kim Ellis Piper. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roger; sons, Michael and
Jeffrey Scheetz; granddaughters Jenneh (Kerry) Kelly and Kyla (Nellie) DeWeese; grandsons
Thomas and Max Scheetz; great-granddaughters Brinley and Ava Kelly; sister Ann Rouse;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Carol Scheetz; sister-in-law Sheryl Marshall; and
many nieces and nephews.
You can honor Linda's life by donating in her memory to Peace Church; planting a flower;
volunteering your time at your church or
your favorite charity; or simply by being kind to
someone.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Peace
