Linda Sue Shoemaker, a cherished soul whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in
Arlington, TX. Born on September 7, 1938, in
Duncan, Oklahoma, to Del Dee Bauer and Delbert Jerome Loafman, Linda's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds.
Linda's early years in Oklahoma laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to service and community. She moved through the world with a grace that was as constant as it was comforting. Her career at the Texas Department of Human Services was marked by a deep commitment to helping others, a commitment that did not wane upon her retirement. Linda continued to offer her time and energy to those around her, becoming a familiar and friendly face during her years doing food demonstrations at Costco.
Her service extended beyond her professional life, as she volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County for over two decades and was a regular helper at the Saint Marks Soup Kitchen. Linda's generosity knew no bounds, and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life made her an invaluable member of her community.
Linda was also an active member of Encore, Suburban, and Arlington Women's Clubs, where she reveled in the camaraderie of playing Mahjong, the excitement of travel, and the cherished Christmas Teas with her daughters and granddaughters. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was a night of games with her family, a gathering around the kitchen where she showcased her exceptional cooking, or serving at her beloved Saint Marks Anglican Church as an usher and a member of the alter guild.
Throughout her life, Linda's family was her everything. She is survived by her devoted son, Michael J. Shoemaker and his wife, Angela; her loving daughters, Paige Shoemaker and her husband, Daniel Luttrell, and Brooke Ross and her husband, Skip. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jennifer, Samantha, Jarret, Lauren, Dylan, Cory, Mackenzie, Riley, and her great-grandchildren, Desiree, Michaela, Jack, Jaison, Charlotte, Wesleigh, Aly, Reid, Blake, Ashlyn, Hayleigh, Kiley, Wakely, Everly, Eisley, Finley, Stetson, Indie, Pennie, and Remy. Linda also leaves behind her brother, Jerry Loafman and his wife, Gail, who will remember her loving spirit and cherish the memories they made together.
Linda's love for travel was as boundless as her love for her family. She held dear the memories of her time in Europe, where she lived and explored while her children's father was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Her adventurous spirit was matched only by her readiness to enjoy the finer things in life, like going out to dinner or participating in the wine club that sprang up during COVID.
Linda's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, service, and joy. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact she made on the world around her will resonate for generations to come. As we bid farewell to Linda Sue Shoemaker, we celebrate the extraordinary woman she was and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who knew her.
