Linda VanOrden Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 6, 2025.
Linda Louise VanOrden, of DeWitt, Michigan, passed away on October 4, 2025, after a recurrence of cancer. Born November 29, 1960, Linda grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, attended Central High School and graduated from Michigan Technological University. She lived in Sharpsburg, Georgia before moving to DeWitt in 2017.
Linda was a master gardener, a crossword puzzler, and an avid reader. She loved her family, Diet Coke, a good story, MeTV and Jeopardy! She was gracious and never lost her sense of humor – ever.
Preceded in death by her parents, Jane and Peter VanOrden and brother, Christopher, Linda will be greatly missed by sisters, Amy (David) Tratt and Cathy VanOrden; brother KC (Desiree) VanOrden; as well as nieces and nephews Dan, Peter (Erika) and Mark (Kelsey Mullen) Tratt, Caitlyn (Kevin) Schmidt, Kurt VanOrden, and Daniel and Jonathan Wood. She was a great-aunt to Connor and Bennett Schmidt, and Kollyns, Kennedy and Scottie Tratt. Linda also leaves behind dearly loved cousins and second cousins – and so loved the times our clan got together, particularly for the yearly 4th of July reunions on Lake Michigan.
Linda will be remembered at a gathering on Saturday, October 18, at 12:30 pm, at the home of Amy and Dave Tratt at 403 Windy Rush Lane in DeWitt. Family and friends are invited for the dedication of "Linda's Lending Library," with a luncheon to follow. Feel free to bring a favorite book to fill the library and share with others who love to read as much as Linda did!
Linda's ashes will be interred in the Memorial Columbarium at Park Congregational Church in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mother Teresa Hospice House in Lansing, Michigan, or to your favorite charity.
