Dexter – Linwood "Linny" (Bumpa) Towle, age 91, passed away on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1934, in Garland, the son of Morris and Alice V. (Smith) Towle.
Linny graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter, class of 1952. He served three years in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge. Linny was self-employed in the auto body business in Connecticut and owned Dexter Auto Body in Dexter for many years. He also worked at Dexter Shoe Company, retiring after 10 years.
Linny loved his family and the many gatherings and events they had, including those of his in- laws, the Veazie family. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, his favorite player being Mickey Mantle. Linny was also a fan of the New England Patriots and spent many Sunday afternoons with the gang on Acadia Street cheering on the Pats. In high school, he was a member of the 1951 State Champion football team and was inducted into the Class of 2019 Dexter Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Linny enjoyed reading, doing sudoko and putting puzzles together. He was a self-taught craftsman and made many pieces of furniture – if you showed him a picture, he could make it.
As a communicant of St. Anne's Parish in Dexter, he served as President of the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. He was a lifetime member of Cardinal Mercier Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight.
Linny is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Ann (Rowe) Towle; son, David Towle and his wife, Yany of San Antonio, TX; son, Steven Towle and wife, Sharon of Dexter; daughter, Terri Rex and husband, Dennis of Foothill Ranch, CA.; grandchildren, Michael Towle and wife, Melissa of Hampden, Emily Henderson and husband, David of Dover-Foxcroft, Brett Towle and fiancée, Megan of Jewett City, CT, Sean Towle and wife, Jenn of Dexter, Brandon Rex of Franklin, TN, and Brian Rex of Akron, OH.; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Mckenley Towle of Hampden, Devin Henderson of Dover-Foxcroft, and Jackson Clark and Caden and Oliver Towle of Dexter; brother, Lawrence of Corinth; and many close life-long friends. Linny was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Frank, Roland, Raymond, Roger; sister, Helen Smith; and a special grand-dog, Halle Mae Towle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 10AM Monday June 30, 2025, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dexter. Burial will be at Morse's Corner Cemetery in Corinna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Our Lady's of the Snows Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 193, Dexter, ME 04930. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Sorry to hear of Linny´s passing. I have very fond memories of our time in Connecticut. He and my Dave are no doubt having a reunion in Heaven.
