Lisa Danielle (Sawyer) Kinzer, beloved mother, sister, and daughter, was called home by the Lord on November 28, 2025. Despite residing in
Austin, TX, Lisa stayed true to her Sooner roots and proudly wore crimson in a sea of burnt orange. In addition to her love of OU football, she was known for her brilliant mind, generous spirit, and fabulous brows.
Lisa was born on March 7th, 1977 in
Murphysboro, IL. Her school years were spent in
Norman, OK where she graduated from Norman High in 1995, as a National Merit scholar. Lisa continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, as a double major in math and letters. Her love of reading also lead her to a Masters in library science before going on to law school.
During her time at the University of Texas School of Law, Lisa distinguished herself through her dedication and intellect. She served as a law clerk with Disability Rights Texas, a judicial intern for a district court judge in the Southern District of New York, a legislative intern with the Texas Senate, and a research assistant to several esteemed professors. An accomplished scholar, she was also a proud member of the Texas Law Review.
Renowned for her brilliant mind and exceptional writing, Lisa built an extraordinary career in appellate law. She began as a law clerk for the U.S. Courts of Appeals before continuing her service at the Supreme Court of Texas, the Texas Third and Fourth Courts of Appeals, and in private practice.
She is survived by her sons Michael and Thomas Kinzer, and their father, Jason Kinzer; Her partner, Nate Beal; Her siblings, Micah (& Devon) Sawyer and Andrea (& Jason) Dixon; Her niece, Seanna Sawyer and nephew, Clayton Dixon; and her parents, Tony and Sylvia Sawyer. Lisa's aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also provided much love and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Gospel of Life Disciples. The sisters, nurses and volunteers there showed Lisa and her family tremendous compassion during her final days.
A memorial service is planned for March 7th, 2026 at 11AM at the Gospel of Life Disciples (4113 S. Eastern Avenue in
Moore, OK 73160). Her life will be celebrated on what would have been her 49th birthday.
