Livia Jane Gabler, age 76, and a resident of New Braunfels, passed away Thursday evening, January 16, 2025, at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels. Livia was born on May 31, 1948, in Dallas to the late Howell Shelton and Livia Gaston Shelton.
Livia attended college at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas where she met her husband of 51 years before settling in to New Braunfels in 1977. Livia was the heart of the family and the community. As a teacher at Sts. Peter and Paul she inspired and impacted many children who have grown and reside in the community today. Livia devoted her life to raising her two children. Livia was always willing to be a listening ear, provide support, empathize and encourage. With a strong foundation in her faith she always reminded the family to put God first and remember that He is always in control. Livia adored her Grandson Zane who always brought Joy to her day and made her Proud in recent years. Like her children, she dedicated herself to teaching her Grandchild, and Church Catechism about her faith in Jesus and His love for his all. Livia was determined in keeping the family together by creating and continuing traditions, whether that was having Christmas Dinner surrounded at her mother's table, or relighting our baptism candles on our birthday's each year. Each of the traditions she created were opportunities for the family to visit and often share in laughter, sometimes at Livia's expense. Livia has left an indelible mark on the soul of our family and she will forever be missed.
Livia is preceded in death by her parents; sister, SueAnne Aday and by her step-father, John Roger "JR" Bumpas. Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Tom Gabler; daughter, Nicole Sanchez; son, Wesley Gabler and wife, Alex; grandson, Zane Sanchez and by Livia's sister, Sarah Hext.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Immediately following the Mass, a reception will be held at the church in St. Mary's Hall. The committal service will be private-family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to John Paul II Catholic High School, 6720 FM 482, New Braunfels, TX 78132.

Livia and I were friends back in the seventies. She and I were employed with the Bastrop school district. She, me and Shirley Biggers were close friends. Olivia was a delightful and caring person. I will truly miss her. May God be with her and the families always.

Jane and her husband Tom were classmates of mine at Sul Ross. Jane and I were also cast mates in "Funny Thing Happened at the Forum". She was a wonderful person and a sister in the Lord.

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Livia and I had fun conversations and I will miss her at Daily Mass and Bible Study! She was such a faith filled example for all of us.
