Lloyd Leslie "Gip" Gibson Jr. age 74 of Waverly died Saturday, August 16 at his home.

Gip was a devoted husband and family man. He was a retired coal miner. An outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, Gibson won Kentucky's goose calling championship in 1988 and '89 and won the World Masters in 1990. He also helped develop the double-cluck goose call for Knight and Hale. Leslie also took great joy in being Santa Claus to many children in the area.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ravaline Gibson in 1981, his father, Lloyd "Dolly" Gibson Sr. in 2013, two brothers, John Alvin Gibson in 1952, Sammy Ray Gibson in 2009, his step-mother Eva Lou Gibson in 2008, and two step sisters Connie French & Donna Gatten.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Wolfe Gibson of Waverly.

Two daughters Penny (Bill) Raleigh of Corydon and Cristy (Bryan) Turner of Waverly and two sons Trey (Rhonda) Gibson of Morganfield and Kurt (Becky) Gibson of Waverly.

Nine grandchildren: Brent, Penn, & Dori Raleigh, Shelby Gish, Casey Green & fiancè Luke Duncan, Kylee Williams, Kassandra (Dustin) Terrell, Marissa & Kyle Gibson.

Seven great grandchildren: Cloe, Colt, Lexie, Layla, Landen, Cody, & Holden.

Two sisters: Lynell Greenwell and Linda (Randy) Carrier both of Uniontown.

Two brothers: Bobby (Lucy) Gibson of Waverly and Eddie (Myra) Gibson of Pride.

Sister-in-Law: Wilma Gibson of Waverly.

Step-sister: Carla French

And many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday August 21, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly, KY. Fr. Freddie Byrd will officiate.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday and 10 AM until service time Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, Ky where rosary will be said at 6pm Wednesday.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Waverly, KY

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony's Hospice or UC Paws for Cause.
