Lloyd Edward (Ed) Hughes, 96 , of Albany, GA passed away peacefully in his sleep at Willson Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Sherwood Baptist Church. Rev. Tom Pollock and Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Ed was born in Hawkinsville, Ga on April 27, 1929 to Jesse C. and Georgia Shackleford Hughes. He was married to Donnie Duke from July 4, 1947 until her death January 1, 2008. He married Geralene Stephens Brinson on November 19, 2009.
He was an accomplished commercial and residential builder and draftsman (Hughes Construction Company). Ed was a longtime avid golfer. He was a loyal member of Sherwood Baptist Church since 1966, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, a treasurer, and on the building and finance committee. He was a builder of Seasons Christian Care Center. He was a longtime member of The Exchange Club of Albany.
Survivors include his wife, Geralene Hughes and five daughters, Linda Carr (Frank), Janice Rouse (Charlie-deceased), Cindy Bailiff (Charles), Diana Swails, and Pam Shealy (Matthew), two step children, Steve Brinson (Joy), Teresa Mathis (Reid), seven grandchildren, Frank Carr, Jr. (Christy), Toni Hatfield (Travis), Jill Rouse, Jason Rouse, Christie Swails Nantze (Chase), Stephen Swails (Kenzie), Holly Swails, five step-grandchildren, Robert Brinson (Carolyn), Daniel Brinson (Teresa), Carol Galiano (Holmes), Connor Mathis, Colton Mathis, four great-grandchildren, Nick Carr, Ashlyn Carr, Taylor Hatfield and Tristan Hatfield and one step-grandchild, Grantham Brinson.
Family headquarters are at 2113 Cameron Drive, Albany, Ga, 31721.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour in the atrium of Sherwood Baptist Church.
