Lloyd Harold McKeithan 79, passed away Saturday June 17, 2023. Born May 28, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd S And Lili (King) McKeithan of Ash, NC, and also a sister Linda Yvonne Williamson of Tabor City, NC. Surviving is his wife Dianne (Russ) McKeithan. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 27, 2023. Also surviving are a son Rick S McKeithan, his wife Mikaela McKeithan, M Darren McKeithan, his wife Jessica McKeithan, four grandchildren Alexander Lloyd McKeithan of Spartanburg, SC, Lili Ramona McKeithan of Philadelphia, PA, and R Hayden McKeithan of Greenville, NC, Brieana Escalante of Jacksonville, NC. He deeply loved his family.
He committed his heart by faith to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He has been a member of Jennie's Branch Baptist Church, Ocean Isle Beach, NC for 8 years. Before his heart, kidney, and pulmonary illness started he was quite active in the church.
He graduated from Waccamaw High School, class of 1962. One month later he joined the United States Marine Corps and then graduated from basic military training at Paris Island, SC. He attended electronics school in San Diego, CA. He served on various installations including Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam war. Attaining the rank of E-5 Sergeant, he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps at Camp Lejune, NC in 1966. His various medals and honors include good conduct, overseas expedition award (after discharge), national defense, and various rifle and pistol awards.
His interests include playing baseball, fishing, boating, family holidays and outings, and car shows where he won many trophies with his 1963 Corvette convertible. He was an avid reader and history buff. He was a volunteer with the Brunswick Veterans Administration, transporting veterans to and from doctor and hospital visits. He helped many people in his neighborhood when they were sick or otherwise not able to help themselves.
He had a group of close friends with whom he enjoyed target practice. They got together once per week at Low Country Preserve rifle and pistol range. They will be honorary pall bearers at his funeral.
He has four cousins who were very special to both he and his family. Rabon King, Paul King, Ronnie King, and Bobby Ray Russ.
The funeral and visitation will be held on June 21, 2023 in the chapel at Brunswick Funeral Services in Shallotte, NC from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Internment services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Mintz cemetery. Officiating will be pastor Robbie Stephens and Pastor Landis Lancaster. Pastor Mark Smith of Jennie's Branch Baptist Church will be assisting with and singing at the services. Albert Hughes will sing Beulah Land. Other songs will be Precious Memories, I Can Only Imagine, and Amazing Grace. Pall bearers will be Rick McKeithan, Darren McKeithan, Hayden McKeithan, Chris Wood, Billy Inman, and Michael Norton.
He will receive full United States military honors to include folding and presentation of the flag. Taps will be played at the Mintz cemetery following the internment services. He loved the corps. Once A Marine, Always A Marine. Semper Fidelis.
