Lloyd Holder Cage born February 6th, 1949 went to be with his Lord this November 18, 2025. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Lloyd was an ever present, iconic fixture in the community. In 1988 Lloyd married Jane and they enjoyed 38 years of hunting, spoiling kids and grandkids together. Lloyd was born to Carroll and Patty Cage and is survived by his children Aaron Ranton (Diane), Meredith Waterhouse, grandchildren, Madeline Waterhouse, Grayson Roach, Lexi Soward, Richard Waterhouse, Jackson Roach, Cage Ranton, Conley Waterhouse, and Virginia (Gigi) Ranton.
After attending Baylor University on a tennis scholarship, Lloyd spent a few years in Houston in the banking industry before returning home to work for Gulf Concrete in Corpus. Through many years and acquisitions, Lloyd and Alamo Concrete were responsible for a monumental portion of the concrete poured in the greater South Texas area before retiring to enjoy more mischief, misbehavin', and more than a few Dewar's and waters.
Anyone asked would refer to Lloyd as one of one, HMFIC, and the greatest Pop ever. A collector of many things, including people, books, guns, hunting equipment, dogs and hot sauce (mostly for the silly labels, not the taste), Lloyd never met a stranger and had an unmatched talent for listening to those that needed to be heard. Ever the head in hands ponderer, Lloyd was intentional with his advice and took helping those around him with the utmost seriousness.
Lloyd's greatest love was undoubtedly his grandchildren, proven through his shepherding of all them through their first deer, quail, and dove hunts while fostering a deeply personal love of the outdoors and all its inhabitants. At the core of all motivations, Lloyd was the patriarch of our loud, messy family and never backed down from the chaos. In the midst of it all, after Jane and Lloyd dabbled in heart surgery and breast cancer, they turned their sites to Africa, becoming avid visitors of the African continent, with a particular fondness for Namibia. Though hunting was the always on the agenda, Jane and Lloyd found themselves returning for their love of the landscape and the people they came to love dearly.
Lloyd, Jane and Jeff Sizemore were the core group that established the Brush Country chapter of Safari Club International 16 years ago, and since then, the chapter has grown to become a major contributor to all things hunting, fishing, and supporting children's involvement with outdoor activities. Safari Club has played a major role in Lloyd and Jane's life over the years, and the relationships developed within that community stand out as some of the most impactful in either of their lives.
Every morning, Lloyd woke up to read the obituaries and declare they hadn't gotten him yet. Corpus Christi lost one of the greats. As family and as community, we are all better for knowing Lloyd Cage. He barreled into each of our lives with Category 5 force and left us all changed for the best.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Saint James Episcopal School and the Texas Brush Country chapter of Safari Club International in support of children's educational pursuits and recreational outdoor endeavors. As Lloyd would say, okay, y'all can go home now.
