Lois Loretta Lewis Deitz, surrounded by her children, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 after a period of declining health.
Lois was more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother – she was the heart and soul of our family. She loved her family unconditionally and her quiet strength was found in her devotion to the Lord. Lois carried herself with grace and warmth. Her ability to overcome obstacles and persevere through difficult times made her an inspiration to all. She will be remembered for her selfless love, giving spirit and quick wit.
Lois was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson and a member of East Sylva Baptist Church. Lois was affectionately known for her servant’s heart, always making pound cakes and jars of homemade jelly for her friends and family. She held a special place in her heart for children, serving in the church nursery for over 20 years. Lois enjoyed being outside, taking walks and spending time with her family.
Lois was the devoted mother of Teresa Sutton (Mike), Jill Deitz MacEwen and Matthew Deitz (Shannon). She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother known as “Gran” to Dustin Deitz (Lindsey), Sarah MacEwen (Dillon), William MacEwen, Abigail Deitz, Makenna Deitz and Isabella Deitz; and “Great Gran” to Olivia Deitz and Camille Deitz. She is also survived by her four sisters, Betty Allen, Gin Moses (Harry), Sue Lewis and Pat Cardon (John); and two brothers Paul Lewis (Barbara), and Mick Lewis. She is also survived by numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arvil Deitz, her parents Neal and Ollie Lewis and sister in law, Dorothy Lewis.
The family would like to thank Skyland Nursing Home for their tender care of Lois during her stay.
