Lois Elaine Phelan Edelman, 94, from Hillsdale, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born on February 3, 1931 in Warnerville, New York. She was one of four children of the late Charles and Esther (Tingue), Phelan.
Lois and her late husband, Leland W. Edelman Sr. owned a small dairy farm which she worked and ran in Hillsdale until 1968. She then worked at BD in Canaan, Ct for 25 years where she retired in 1993. Lois also worked at the Hillsdale Food Pantry in the Methodist Church basement for twenty years and was also well known for her homemade pies at the church bake sales. She also was a charter member of the Hillsdale Fire Company; Ladies Auxiliary.
Lois is survived by her four children; Sharon (Arthur Jr.) Simpson, Phoenix, AZ, Leland W. Edelman Jr. (Mary Pollock), Sherry Eastman, and Mark (Betsy) Edelman, all of Hillsdale. She also has seven grandchildren; William Edelman from Richmond, MA, Arthur (Jen) Simpson III, Pelham, Jennifer (David) Hill, Canaan, CT, Jeremy Simpson Scottsdale, AZ, Tina Farrance, Cazenovia, Rebecca (Wayne) Dibble, Chateaugay, NY and Brian (Anita) Edelman, of Hillsdale. Lois also has 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her sister, Mildred Phelan.
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her brother Donald C. Phelan and a sister Beverly Phelan.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be on Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake, New York. where a memorial service will begin at 2:00pm. Inurnment will take place privately in the Hillsdale Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lois’s name may be made to the Hilldale Food Pantry.
