Lois Eleanor Ferland, 89, of Montpelier, Vermont, passed away in Burlington on July 30, 2025.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, on August 31, 1935, to Doris and Gerald Trudel, Lois began life as a premature baby not expected to survive, yet she lived a rich and vibrant life. She raised six children, worked in healthcare administration and volunteered with numerous organizations.
Lois's early memories included the war years spent in Nova Scotia and her school days in Lac-Mégantic, where she made lifelong friends and met her future husband. After her family returned to Montreal, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force - a time she remembered with pride as her gateway to independence and adulthood.
In 1956, Lois married Vianney Ferland in Montreal and eventually settled in Vermont where Lois worked in hospitals and nursing homes as an administrative professional.
Lois had many creative hobbies, including quilting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Above all, she loved reading and passed that passion on to her children. Following retirement, Lois remained active by volunteering, attending theater, playing bingo, traveling, and snow-birding in Phoenix.
Lois is survived by her children: Dianne (Mohammed) Khalaj; Suzanne Ferland; Michael (Susan) Ferland ; Joanne Ferland; Liseanne (Oakley) Rolwing as well as six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Vianney, and son, Jerome Ferland.
Lois will be laid to rest beside her husband, Vianney, in Morrisville, Vermont where they began their married life. In honor of Lois's deep love for animals donations may be made to your local shelter. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Lois, please visit our Tree Store.
