Lois Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. - West York on Jan. 4, 2024.
Lois Ann (Kelley) Ford, 92, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was the wife of the late James (Jim) Ford, and mother of James Kelley Ford, NC and Karen Ford, PA. Lois, the daughter of the late Ruth Kelley and Louis (Bud) Kelley, spent her formative years in Luke, Maryland. She trained at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland, completing her nursing education in 1952. She moved to Baltimore, where she was employed by Union Memorial Hospital. She married James Ford in 1957 and they relocated to York in 1968. She devoted 20 years to raising her children, later returning to work at York Hospital, then retired in 1997.
Lois dedicated much of her life to serving others and being an active part of her community and church. Her journey as a member of Advent Lutheran Church, beginning in 1968, showcased her strong sense of faith and commitment. Lois engaged in various activities which reflected her zest for life, including reading, tennis, playing the piano, and traveling. Her love of travel allowed her to collect memories from around the world, with photographs documenting her adventures from China to Peru. Her musical talents shone through as she played both the piano and organ, and her voice graced the church choir.
Her community activism demonstrated a compassionate heart, as she went above and beyond to assist those in need. Lois made a positive impact on the lives of many, from driving the elderly to appointments to delivering meals on wheels and visiting shut-ins. She continued her vocation for helping others as a member of the Sunshine Committee at Sprenkle Village. Lois remained active and engaged, whether delivering birthday cards, attempting to learn mahjong, or attending various events, she continued to embrace life with enthusiasm.
Lois is survived by her children James Kelley Ford and Karen Ford, her grandchildren, Jack Ford Delaney and Linda Powell, her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Kelley Carter and Dr. James Carter, and 2 great grandchildren.
Lois's compassion, tireless efforts in community service, and the love she shared with her family and friends will be remembered by a celebration of her life at Advent Lutheran Church, located at 1775 E Market Street, York PA 17402 on February 10, 2024 at 1 o'clock.
