The world lost a beloved mother, Lois Jean Gilbert, on November 18, 2023. Jean lived a long, beautiful life of 91 years, but moved on to Heaven to be with her husband, Dub Gilbert, who proceeded her in death. She brought love, laughter, strength, and wisdom to her family and all who called her friend.
Jean was born in Bennington, Oklahoma on November 16, 1932 to Homer and Ruby Hines. She met her beloved husband, Dub, at the local skating rink, fell in love and they married December 23rd, 1950. Jean and Dub were married for 66 years and had 4 children. Jean was a stay at home mom initially, then eagerly started a career at Sears, where she eventually retired from after years of successfully providing for her family.
Jean loved to spend time with her family, kept her grandbabies as often as she could, spent time at the lake fishing, hosting catfish frys or just relaxing reading a book. She was an excellent traveler with her husband, children and friends. She adored Hawaii and cruising! Jean and her husband were members of a square-dancing club for years, where they enjoyed dancing and made life-long friendships. Jean was known to dominate while playing dominos, and was quite the card shark. She was a great seamstress and a wonderful cook.
Everyone that met Jean was touched by her kindness, sparkling blue eyes, and quick wit. Jean is survived by her daughter, Sue Arnim, her son Paul Gilbert and daughter-in-law, Michelle Gilbert, her son, Bill Gilbert. Her grandchildren, Shelley Arnim, Lindsay Arnim, Reed Gilbert, Taylor Collie, Melissa Gilbert, and her great-grandchildren, Jake Hebrink and Renner Gabrielli. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Dub Gilbert, her son, Jimmy Gilbert, her son-in-law, Rex Arnim, her brother Glen, as well as, her parents, Homer and Ruby Hines.
Family, friends and all her loved ones are invited to honor, remember and say goodbye to Jean on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 10 am. Her services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas with the burial service to follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma at 2:30 pm.
