Lois (94) peacefully passed away on January 26, 2025 in Middlebury, Vermont, surrounded by loving family.
Lois lived most of her life in Essexville, Michigan, up until 6 years ago when she moved to Vermont to be closer to her daughter, Cherie. Her body may have been in Vermont, but a large part of her heart always remained in Michigan.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Alphonse Hellebuyck, and her beloved granddaughter, Amy Vachon, brothers Edwin, Fred, and Walter Pergande; and sisters Marie Schabel, Dorothy Piesik, and Edna Lijewski.
Survivors include her children: Cheryl (Paul) Vachon of Vermont, Rick (Janet) Hellebuyck of Colorado; her Granddaughters Sabra (Chris) Chiurri of Massachusetts, Courtney Hellebuyck of Utah, and Kelsey Hellebuyck of Missouri, her great grandchildren Maxwell, and Ava Chiurri of Massachusetts.
Special thanks to the many nieces and nephews who looked after her while in Michigan, and stayed in contact with her while in Vermont. Deep gratitude to niece Penny Kryzminski, and her late husband Dan, who hosted Mom for every Holiday, and were always available anytime/anywhere.
Mom was a fiercely independent woman, and a woman of faith. She was a member of the Essexville Pilgrim Lutheran Church where she actively engaged in many activities. She took great pride in being a Bay County Hospital Volunteer along with 2 of her sisters.
Penzien-Steele Funeral Home is in charge of burial arrangements at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Essexville Pilgrim Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in Michigan at a later date to be determined by family.
