Ralph Charles Hellebuyck Sr, 79, of Lapeer, (formerly of New Baltimore and Yale, Michigan), passed away December 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 26, 1944, in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Being one of 11 kids, he grew up as part of a large farm family. Ralph graduated from Anchor Bay High School in 1962, where he excelled in mathematics and sports. He was part of the varsity club, played football, baseball, basketball, track, and was class president his junior year. In 1964, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Diane Lynn Hassig. Ralph did custom drywall for over 30 years while operating, "The Sewing Basket" in New Baltimore, Michigan with his wife. They later sold that business and founded, "Old Print Factory Inc." Ralph then retired from drywall and devoted his energy to grow and run that business for over 18 years with his wife.
Retired since 1996, Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family and, in particular, spoiling his grandkids Zachary and Ruby. His hobbies and passions included AA trap shooting, guns, collecting vintage ammunition, attending gun shows, watching sports, playing cards, board games, traveling, giving to others, and spending winters in warm Florida. He also was an excellent cook and enjoyed just having conversations with people, even those he just met. Ralph had a plethora of life stories he shared and told with such flair that he would captivate the entire room. Many times, these stories would leave you laughing. He was no stranger to hard work, extremely competitive, and successful at anything he set his mind to.
Ralph is survived by his son, Ralph Jr (Shayne) of Attica, Michigan; grandchildren Zachary and Ruby; sister-in-law Marilyn (Ben) D'Anna; nephew Wil (Kayla) D'Anna; siblings Jim, Margaret, Kenny, Ronnie, and Corky; also 56 additional nieces and nephews.
In 1999 Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved and dearly missed wife of 35 years, Diane. Now they are together again. Also his siblings, Shirley, Bill, Donna, Carole, and Frank.
Friends may visit on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 2-7 PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 11 AM at Lynch & Sons. Pastor Russ Sommer will officiate. Ralph will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in New Baltimore. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Both Ralph and Diane were put on this earth as guardian angels for many lucky people. They were loving, giving and caring to all who passed their way! I have peace in my heart knowing that after 24 years they are in each other´s arms once again!

I learned to spell Hellebuyck when I was 5 years old, writing the lineup of my father's Little League team into his scoreboard. My father was Al Gave, one of the original four managers of the Anchor Bay Little League in 1955.

Ralph was his catcher. I remember him as a good kid, hardworking, coachable, a natural-born leader -- a role model for a kid like me a few years younger.

I am not surprised to read about what a wonderful life he led. I knew some of his younger brothers later on, a couple of whom live near me here Up North. The Hellebuycks are a wonderful family. My prayers are with them.
