Lois Jean Johnson

November 27, 1935 ~ September 27, 2025

Lois Jean Johnson, 89, Marion, passed away at 5:01 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Marion Health. She was born in Grant County, Indiana, on Wednesday, November 27, 1935, to Leroy and Ethel (Walters) Hosier. She married Howard Mullen Johnson, and he preceded her in death after 43 years of marriage.

Lois graduated from Marion High School in 1953. Lois held several offices in the union during her time working at the Northern Indiana VA Healthcare System and had even been president of the union for a time. In addition to working in payroll and benefits for the VA, she previously worked at Glass Containers in Gas City. Lois loved animals, especially the many cats that she owned over the years. She enjoyed going to the VA retiree dinners on the first Friday of each month. She was a member of the Grant County Historical Society. Lois was an avid Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs and IU/Butler basketball fan. She loved Disney Parks and Mickey Mouse, and watching marching band performances.

Survivors include her daughters, Robin Reed of Marion and Terri Reed of Fort Wayne; stepson, Retired Colonel William (Cindy) Johnson of Brownsburg; stepdaughter, Susan Grindle of Marion; grandchildren, Victoria Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Sean Grindle; nephew, Randall (Peggy) Hosier and niece, Rebecca (David) Rees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Ethel Hosier; husband, Howard Mullen Johnson; and brother, Herman E. Hosier.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as well as 1 hour prior to the service at noon on Wednesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

A funeral to celebrate Lois' life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Marion-Grant County Humane Society P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
