Lois Beck O'Brien

Lois Beck O'Brien, a beloved mother, cherished educator, and beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, after a long illness, at the age of 77. Her warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be profoundly missed.

Lois was born on October 29, 1947, in Troy, NY, to the late Carl and Grace (Lozo) Beck. She dedicated her professional life to early childhood education. After graduating from Albany Academy in NY, she pursued her passion for learning and teaching at Wheelock College in Boston. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Harvard University. This foundation set the stage for her distinguished career as a Kindergarten teacher for the Town of Weymouth, where she shaped young minds with joy and enthusiasm for over 35 years.

Outside of the classroom, Lois took pleasure in gardening, arts & crafts, local history, and volunteering at her church.

Among her many interests and accomplishments, none were more important to her than her family. The love she had and the pride she felt for her children and grandchildren was obvious to all who knew her, and nothing brought her more happiness.

Even as she struggled for more than a decade with Parkinson's disease, Lois remained an exemplar of compassion and perseverance. The grace with which she bore her challenges and the care she continued to have for others served as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. She will be remembered as the epitome of a nurturing and generous soul by those whose hearts she touched for many years to come.

She is survived by her children, Lawrence O'Brien, III of Braintree, Christopher O'Brien and his wife Jennifer of Monterey, CA, Elizabeth O'Brien and her fiancé Nathan, of Braintree; her granddaughters, Lily, Abigail, and Samantha; her siblings, Carl Beck of SC, and Barbara Dertinger of AZ; and former husband, Lawrence O'Brien, Jr, of Braintree, all of whom-along with many friends and extended family members-mourn her loss. She is preceded in death by her late sisters Grace Beck and Phyllis Atkinson.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 30th, at 10:00 AM in the First Congregational Church of Braintree, 12 Elm St, Braintree. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the First Congregational Church of Braintree, 12 Elm St, Braintree, MA 02184, and to the Braintree Historical Society, 31 Tenney Road, Braintree MA 02184.
